These 30 hand-made records were produced by Phonocats Vinyl in Wexford, Ireland. The records were fashioned by a "lathe-cutting" process-how each master record in a factory is produced. When this process is employed in the factory, all other records are then printed off that one master. In our case, each record is effectively the master and is created in real-time. The records include a pull out print by De Rolê Audiovisual (as in the image of the woman in the water above). The back of the pull out includes all the lyrics of the songs. The Cover art is courtesy of the National Museum of Ireland, it's a section of a larger photo of the shelling of the Four Courts in Dublin in 1922 which marked the beginning of the Irish Civil War. The artwork on the label of the record itself was designed by Juan Carlos Perez Trejo. The records themselves are transparent heavyweight (180mg) vinyls.

1.
A tree falls lightly by the river-bed As day-break lightly on my heavy head, Reminds me of something else- An old choice I made when younger days had a hold of me and you, out for a cigarette up in smoke, round and round and down we go. Everywhere I go reminds me of somewhere else, an old friend I used to know, have you seen the black rogue? A tree falls lightly to the river bed floats down and sinks into the sand Day breaks something inside my head Have you seen the black rogue?
2.
On Ingrim St. I long to be Whether sun it glistens or rain it sleeks, On roofs of tin, or tiles of slate, In the sweet sun or when the moons a plate. I Dance on rooftops while I lie in bed, Cut daydream crops where I lay down my head, On Ingrim St. I’m sure you’ve heard maybe you’ve seen? In a fairytale or your reality? We all know of some princess, In ragged rags or silken dress, I love you when you smile that way, I want you when you cry and say I love you, On Ingrim St.
3.
“You’re no fun anymore, you clip my wings,” Three days squirming like a fish inside a bowl with no water. You’re like a bunch of raw nerves, reaching out, reaching out, Lashing out at anyone that arrives inside the hive. A swarm of thoughts arise, disperse and wander. I perched contended on your edge, Now I cling to the ledge. This is no tall building with tall tales, Watch me dissolve, not with angry steps, into a distance.
4.
I love how storms dispel fluttering flags ripped from the swell No talking now as plans are undone, disperse what must, seek to unravel. Still, as I’m here snug and warm Take me on a tall tale of wind, Swirl and scatter walls come down and then We hear the call. The creaking of bone, the cracking of timber, the crash of waves, a swirl of sky, the pebbled shore, a murmur aloud, A secret unknown, Ruin here for all. That keep that harnesses stone, A stand skeletal whistles through bone, By ross or headland, by decree by tome and testament, All is called to wind.
5.
Fire and foam, young men grown old. Listen to them rave and rant ‘til their grave, while some others sullen, wait ‘til death is upon them to launch out their cry, when their end is nigh, whole worlds unfold. Since the day you left, I haven’t grasped it yet, there’s a place in my heart where it all ripped apart, I haven’t clung to a hope or a home or a dream, I haven’t felt what it meant to be parted or pulled or returned. Come rolling thunder, let’s fall asunder, in the blink of an eye, a long dream dies. I haven’t felt what it meant, though my soul is rent, I haven’t broken theses plans, though that world is gone, I haven’t shattered the dreams, I’ve fallen apart at the seams, you haven’t lifted the phone, told me to move on, though it's been five years, I’ve not shed a tear, though that world is gone, I go on.
6.
I was under an impression that right was right and wrong was, under a cloud that had gathered and left me feeble and bereft. Of all the times that were, of all the times to come, here am I lost among. I climbed a hill that rolled under clouds that rolled above, waited for a carriage to arrive, an abiding memory, green hills in a grey country cold, collared, fallen time. Of all the times that were, Of all the times to come, here am I lost among. I pulled up my cloak against the cold, And thought the wind taught me. Though I couldn’t hear it clearly, lessons, whispered in my ear. Is something to be learned lost among the memories? Green hills in a grey country, cold collared, fallen time. Of all the times that were, of all the times to come, here am I lost among.
7.
I was named after a prince that never came, I’m the end of a long line that bore the name. Thomond abandoned, it's long since there was a prince in Deasmhumhain, like an arrow that arched o’er the bog, ’til it sinks down into the mud, poised I rise and follow myself, ’til time kept is snuffed out and bate. A Kingdom rich in treasured gold, that gathers grudges deep, It hides its buried hoard, as wolves lay down next to me. Was there a time when woods were our home? That timber sailed on a tender, no more to plunder, no more fleets roam. Seas of riches still syphoned, allegiances sold, no more the past haunts, or so we’ve been told. I found its buried hoard on a bright may morning; they long for power and take with the strong hand (x6)
8.
Throw me a line, Tell me it’ll work out fine Where the waves come in, that’s where the ships sink in. Set a bark afloat and surrender, Where the green hills roll on the earth moves under, The sea stays afloat, we drown in fissures. Once there was a gallant man with gallant plans, Now the light slips in, pours as the ground caves in. Light surrounds, I plummet, we’re ripped asunder, Let’s sink down and surrender To a world of forever. paths like crooked creeks, that curl long before you leap down the spiral stairs that spins, that’s how it sucks you in never will it spit you out, the plug is pulled don’t squirm about, Let’s sink down, and surrender, Down the plug hole we're going under, to that world of forever. When you wake you’ll feel refreshed, the tree is felled now nothings left, beyond aloft! a sound cascades, this is where our dreams are made. What calls out to shake the trees? the wave breaks out on the sea, the key is turned, the latch is set, though you haven’t been there yet, The shore it calls from open sea is this the place is it? it's got to be.
9.
I once had a dream said we’d pack up and leave for the country. traveling lonely in bright lights watching souls chase after money. Their neon glow showed me where I had to go, Their neon glow showed me where I had to go, Their neon glow showed me where I had to go, That neon glow. I’ve seen so many faces on my way to that country. Not one of them with would stop a while, relentless they pass by like a dream. No-one will sit with me, let time softly be, No-one will sit with me, let time softly be, Let time softly be. These people throw their words at me nobody’s shown me their soul. When we all walk the same road, how come we all walk alone? Walk to the open sea, moving to an old country, Walk to the open sea, moving to an old country, Walk to the open sea, waking to an old country, The old country. I once had a dream said we’d pack up and leave. Color, sea, sweat, taking me off, one way, one day, love, one day.
10.
Here as the world burns say what you want, Don’t hold back torrents that come Swell and keep us here Though sense long gone And sight and sound. All under one sun Night never comes, Scorched earth burns. Presence goes on And shines and stung No hiding now This bridge won’t burn Though you’re long gone.

about

Some of Fire and Foam was written more than twenty years ago, some is newly composed. What binds these songs together is their personal themes-the album is a clarion call to loss on both an abstract and personal level. As the title track calls,"Come rolling thunder, let's fall asunder, in the blink of an eye a long dream dies." This is my first record not informed in any obvious way by the Irish tradition I've been involved in for the past twenty or more years. My last record "Hy Brasil" dealt exclusively with historical stories and songs of the Irish in Latin America, this release is all personal songs and reflections, and leans heavy into alt. folk territory in its sound. Fire and Foam was recorded during the lockdown and somehow themes of destruction and alignment to a new world crawled out of the subconscious and formed the thematic backbone of the album.
